In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Scott Frank, who adapted the novel The Queen's Gambit into a Netflix series, highlighted the importance of finding the right balance between fidelity to the book and the needs of the screen. 

He said, "You have to be faithful to the book, but the book is not the movie. The movie is the movie."

Directors

Producers

Big Little Lies producer Bruna Papandrea stressed the importance of understanding the core themes and messages of the book when adapting it for the screen. 
She said, "You have to understand the essence of what made the book great and how to translate that onto the screen."
